Definition

A satellite-based NAVIGATION system designed to provide highly accurate POSITION and velocity information in three dimensions and precise time and time interval on a global basis continuously. GPS is operated by the United States Government. GPS to which differential corrections have been applied is known as DIFFERENTIAL GPS (DGPS). See also GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM.
