Definition

A MAP which represents the horizontal and vertical positions of the features represented; distinguished from a PLANI­METRIC MAP by the addition of RELIEF in measurable form. A topographic map uses CONTOURS or comparable SYMBOLS to show MOUNTAINS, VALLEYS and PLAINS.
