Definition
That point in a floating body at which a vertical line drawn through its CENTRE OF BUOYANCY when it is upright meets the vertical line drawn through its CENTRE OF BUOYANCY when it is tipped. CENTRE OF GRAVITY of the unsubmerged part of a floating body; for stable EQUILIBRIUM the metacentre must be above the CENTRE OF GRAVITY.
