Definition

That portion of a RADIO WAVE in proximity to and affected by the GROUND, being somewhat refrac­ted by the lower ATMOSPHERE, diffracted by the surface of the EARTH and retarded by the resistivity of the EARTH. Such a WAVE travels more or less parallel to the sur­face of the EARTH. See WAVE: SKY.
