Definition

1. An electronic navigational chart is a subset of the electronic chart data base held on the vessel. It contains information on features useful for navigation such as coastline, obstructions, beacons etc. 2. The digital data base that is intended to be used in conjunction with ECDIS. Standardized as to content, structure and format the ENC may contain supplementary nautical information useful for safe navigation. The ENC is a subset of the master data base of chart information.
